M‑Files inside Office and Outlook
A document system gets skipped when people have to leave their work to use it. M‑Files sits in the Office programs: you open and save from there, the customer and the version are written into the document for you, and an email is filed from Outlook with its attachments and its metadata.

The document fills in its own details
What M‑Files knows about a document can stand in the document itself: the customer's name in a letter, the project number in a spreadsheet, the version on a slide. It is typed once, in M‑Files, and the document follows.
- Open and save where you are — The M‑Files tab in Word, Excel and PowerPoint opens a document from M‑Files and saves it back, checked out to you while you work.
- Details written into the document — A detail from M‑Files is inserted as a field in Word, a cell in Excel or a text area in PowerPoint, and it is kept up to date from there on.
- Templates that start filled in — A new document made from a template has its fields filled in from the moment it is created.

What you can do from each program
Where M‑Files is connected to Microsoft Entra ID, people sign in with the Microsoft account they already have.

Emails filed with their metadata
An email and its attachments go from Outlook into M‑Files with one click, and land under the customer or project they belong to, where colleagues find them. M‑Files for Outlook Pro files them for you: a rule on an Outlook folder files what arrives in it, a conversation is saved as it grows, shared mailboxes are covered, and a filed email is marked so everyone can see it is in M‑Files. It works in classic Outlook, in the new Outlook and in Outlook on the web.
- Filed with one click — The email, its attachments and the metadata that puts them under the right customer.
- Rules that file for you — A folder rule in Outlook files what arrives in it, and a conversation keeps being saved as replies come in.
- Marked as saved — A filed email carries a mark in Outlook, so nobody files it twice or wonders whether it is in M‑Files.
Keep order in Teams and SharePoint too
Our development partner CtrlDocs makes these add‑ons for M‑Files. We sell and implement them.
Open a document for everyone with one click
CtrlShare opens a document from M‑Files for several people to edit at once. You choose who edits and who only reads, people outside the company included. When the work is done it comes back to M‑Files as a new version, permissions and history intact.

CtrlConnect adds M‑Files search to the Teams chat, on the desktop, on the web and on a phone. An M‑Files link in the chat shows the record's details beside it, so colleagues see what it is before they open it.

People keep working in Teams or SharePoint. CtrlSync keeps a copy of each document in M‑Files, filed by its folder and name, and every later change is saved as a new version. If the team is deleted, the documents are still in M‑Files.

CtrlTeams creates the team and its channel from a project in M‑Files, with the members, folders and approved templates you have set there. What people write in the team is synchronised back to M‑Files with its metadata.
